Exploring Autism and Neurodivergence

February 11 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Please join me for a three-session online class with Politics and Prose exploring autism and Neurodivergence

Do we need to cure autism or understand it?
How should we be treating autistic people?
And what is neurodivergence anyway? Misinformation, lack of information and stigma surround autism.

In 2023, the CDC estimated that 1 in 36 children had autism, up from 1 in 110 in 2006. Why the dramatic increase and what can we do to fully include autistic people in society? Discussions with experts will guide our way.

Eric Garcia, a journalist with autism, wants to change the conversation with his book We’re Not Broken, published in 2021.

Social psychologist Devon Price calls himself a proud autistic person, and he forwards the dialogue with his book Unmasking Autism.

We will explore the ideas in both books in this class, followed by an award-winning young adult novel featuring characters with autism. All the authors have agreed to participate live during each class.
